Y TREE’s back office system had become vast and unruly, with an ever growing feature set struggling to fit within the existing feature groupings. This was the first investment in the UX and IA of the Back Office tool with a goal to streamline and speed up BO users' daily tasks.

Process
The task was clear - grouping existing features sensibly to allow for ease of access as well as future growth and ensure simple discovery for everyday users.
I deployed various UXR methods in the discovery phase - a workshop with product owners defining goals for the product, mapping user journeys based on the most common tasks of different job roles, building an affinity diagram and ultimately working closely with key stakeholders to build out a streamlined architecture.
The new navigation would also include a launchpad for users, in the form of a data-driven dashboard.
Outcomes
Navigation enhancements were made in the form of a new header bar showcasing updated feature groupings and purposes throughout the client lifecycle. From an overarching Dashboard that gives the health of the client at a glance - through to in depth illustrative and actionable data from analysis of investment portfolios through to modelling of strategies and actioning advice to improve performance.
Key stakeholders and users were engaged at each stage, from sitemap ideation and wireframes through to visual execution and in-browser testing.
Learnings
Briefs weren't really a thing at Y TREE, often design tasks would come through with some notes on a Miro board which had been discussed amongst project managers at an earlier meeting.
So when the team talked about the 'frankenstein' that Back Office had become, I took it upon myself to propose and plan the entire discovery, definition and implementation of the project.
